Veteran’s Day is a celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism.

I had the privilege to be part of a celebration with the Atlanta Hawks. The entire team visited the Atlanta VA Medical Center.

As I arrived to the VA Medical Center I met Leslie Wiggins the Director of the Center. She shared with me that the Atlanta VA Medical Center is the sixth fastest growing Center in the country.  Leslie also shared that over the last year they had fulfilled 1.5 million appointments.

Leslie’s passion was evident as she talked about what it meant to have the Hawks visit the VA Medical Center “we love our Veterans and the Atlanta Hawks being here means everything not only to them but to us as well.”

You could see that by the smiles all around as the team that was broken into smaller groups and escorted by staff members walked from room to room thanking Veterans for their service. I had the opportunity to walk around with two of the Hawks – Al Horford and Paul Milsap along with Hawks cheerleaders Shamea Morton and Andi Phillips.

Leslie also introduced me to Chauncy Rozier, Recreation Therapist and Robert Evans Assistant Director of the VA Medical Center. The three of them are amazing and I truly enjoyed listening to their stories about the Center.  They along with their staff give 150% of themselves on a daily basis to those who served our country.

It was a great experience and I look forward to doing it again next year. It taught me that it is good to honor our Veterans on November 11th but we should really be doing it every single day.
