They Mad Bro!

I’m sure for Erin Andrews after the Seahawks/49ers game she didn’t think anything of her next assignment – after the game go approach the guy who tipped the ball that was intercepted and prevented the 49ers for possibly making a comeback and win.

But who knew the following words by that guy – Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman would be known as the “rant” heard all over the world.

“I’m the best corner[back] in the game. When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that’s the result you going to get.”

Within seconds Richard Sherman was celebrated and hated and people are STILL talking about him.  But not just talking about him – dissecting the man and his words and what I want to know – is it really that deep?

Are we in the Matrix? Has everyone got sports amnesia?

Trash talking has been part of the sports culture since I don’t know – forever!

Does one of the greatest athletes and boxers of all time – Muhammad Ali ring a bell? If not (I’m worried about you) there was a time he was considered loud, obnoxious he was a pure trash talker. Ali let you know hands down he was the greatest of all time – he talked about you and your momma – he could rip his opponents to shreds with just his mouth.

That’s what trash talkers do.

Since Ali there has been everyone from Charles Barkley, Deion Sanders to Mike Tyson.  Now you might not agree after witnessing Richard Sherman but there are different degrees of trash talking.  But make no mistake there all loud, confident (some would say arrogant) and they don’t give a rat’s ass what anyone thinks about them.

Now if I had the time to do a Doctoral thesis on trash talking I could come up with some more trash talkers because there are definitely more out there – across all sports.  But I just wanted to make a point.

Sherman’s “rant” might have been loud – but even louder was the ugliness that seeped through the keyboards of those who got “tech courage” to say anything.  Sherman was called everything from classless, a thug, and a monkey to the N-word.

He didn’t kill anyone, he didn’t push Erin Andrews out of the way – he didn’t give the world the finger.

He was loud, obnoxious and he ripped on another player.

That’s what trash talkers do – you still mad bro?
