WEIGHT a minute – a NEW Attitude

Just recently my Doctor told me that my blood pressure was high and I was put on medication. I can honestly tell you I was shocked to hear this.  I knew that over the last six months I hadn’t worked out as much and I hadn’t been eating the best. Basically being busy and I put “me” on hold. But I seriously didn’t think it had gotten this bad. High blood pressure (also called hypertension) is a major risk factor for heart disease, kidney disease, stroke and heart failure.

So after beating myself up and feeling sorry for myself I knew what I had to do. It was time for a change once and for all. Before I left my Doctor’s office she put me on a strict diet for the next two weeks before my next visit. No foods containing fructose, nothing white – bread, rice, pasta and no sugary drinks. I started thinking – so what am I going to eat?

But I’m ready for the challenge and I know some days it will be hard but it’s good to know that we can support each other.  We can do this together and I appreciate all of you who have shared your stories. Continue to let me know how you are doing and remember to take it one day at a time.  Just recently I saw a girlfriend (Mendy) and she has lost 20 pounds so far – she looks great! She shared that it was no special pill or any tricks just good old fashion watching what she eats, walking and riding her bike. I needed that inspiration.

I’ve already started walking and I’m all about the fruit, veggies, fish and chicken.  It will be an interesting two weeks and I know some days will be hard.  But I have to get off of this medication so it’s a new day – a new attitude!
